Foundation: good news for fans of the Apple TV+ series

The galactic battle of Unit For the future of humanity is not ready to end. While its season 3 ended yesterday, the ambitious science fiction series of Apple TV+ streaming platform has just been renewed for a fourth season. A formalization that arrives after months of rumors and movements within production.

A season 4 expected, but revised downwards

This renewal is not the most surprising, since we learned last February that the series had replaced its team of writers and changed showrunner, Ian Goldberg (Fear The Walking Dead) and David Kob (Flash) then taking the place of David S. Goyer (The Dark Knight,, Sandman).

And the new duo has bread to work for this fourth season to come, since in addition to the many departures, Unit also experienced a major budget review from Skydance Television, producer of the show.

It must be said that after a budget estimated at $ 5 million per episode in season 1, it inflated in the second season to reach a total of 100 million. The third season was affected by the major strike in Hollywood in 2023, which has paused many productions.

Viewers who follow Unit will therefore be able to expect a revised ambition with this future season, in agreement with this new economy. But the Ian Goldberg and David Kob co-showrunners want to be reassuring:

“There is no series comparable to Foundation and we are happy and honored to take up the torch as co-shows for season four.”

“We are impatient to continue the epic and moving history that marked the first three seasons of the series, and to collaborate with some of the most talented and passionate creative partners in the sector”they conclude.

As a reminder, Unit is the adaptation of the cult “foundation cycle” of the author Isaac Asimov, composed of seven works published between 1942 and 1993. Despite faults and questionable narrative choices, an impressive show carried by a visual ambition rarely seen in a television series.

In addition to a neat production, the series has a cast of talented actors: Lee Pace, Jared Harris, Terrence Mann, Lou Llobell … The recent season 3 also introduced the very important character of the mule, embodied by Pilou Asbaek.
