Free has not understood everything: new Freebox subscribers will be rare in 2025

The latest figures from Free are clearly not encouraging, with a subscriber base Freebox which has stagnated since the start of the year. A situation that worries the competition, which communicates more attractive news for their 3rd quarter of 2025. Here is the information to remember!
Free’s prices and fiber offers no longer seem as attractive
By sharing its 3rd quarter resultsFree still announces that it has 7.6 million Freebox subscribers as of September 30, 2025. An impressive figure at first glance, but which unfortunately remains identical to that of the start of the year, or even of the 2nd quarter.
Performances far from saying much, with a rounding up to the hundred thousand subscribers. “Since the start of the year, the operator has only recruited 3,000 new subscribers according to its public information”specifies Freebox universe.
It seems that the operator is unable to attract new customers, despite its attractive prices. It must be said, on the other hand, that the entry level has improved in recent months, and the competition figures seem to point in this direction: +20,000 customers at Bouygues Telecom and +79,000 for Orange.
And the fiber in all this? Free highlights the increase from 6.4 million very high-speed subscribers during the 2nd quarter to 6.5 million during the 3rd quarter. 100,000 subscribers thus seem to have made the transition, compared to 128,000 for Bouygues and 274,000 for Orange.
To explain these results, Xavier Niel’s operator speaks of a “market context which remains very competitive”where the objective is to continue to hold its “strategy of balance between value and volumes and its unique positioning articulating innovation, generosity of offers, quality of service and locked prices”.
Only light through the shadows Freean increase in turnover on services, up 2.7% over the first nine months of 2025 in France (+9.4% in Italy and +7.2% in Poland). As a bonus, Iliad considers itself to be “the only growing operator among the 4 national operators” in France.
The group’s profitability thus seems to remain strong, despite continued weak momentum on the fiber market in France.
