The management ofesim has come true at Free Mobile since December 2020 for new customers. All subscribers then had the possibility of replacing their SIM card with the virtual version at the end of 2022, but on request and for the modest sum of € 10. Good news, iOS 18.5 could change everything on the iPhone, with in particular the possibility of transforming a SIM card into ESIM in a nod.

ESIM in the process of democratizing at Free Mobile

By searching the new Carrier Bundle of free mobile (version 63.5.1) discovered in the beta 2 of iOS 18.5, @Tiinox83 discovered two interesting lines of code:

  • Quick transfer from ESIM
  • Conversion of a physical sim to esim

The operator would therefore be ready to activate these two key features concerning dematerialized SIM cards, natively proposed by Apple.

With the Quick transfer from ESIMit will be possible to pass your free mobile esim iphone To another, without having to contact Free Mobile. This is possible when the first configuration of a new iPhone or later in the settings (settings> Cellular data> Add an ESIM card).

The most interesting is the “Conversion of a physical sim to esim”which will allow Free subscribers to go into no time in the all -demeaniorized. The approach is also ultra -hosting, requiring only to select the option Convert into esim in the section Cellular data application Settings.

This second option could thus accelerate and democratize the adoption of ESIM among customers Free mobile with an iPhone. Although it is optional for the moment, one may wonder if Apple will not gradually encourage its adoption in Europe.

Indeed, the iPhone 15 And iPhone 16 are limited to ESIM in the United States. A space of space still unused on these models, which however obliges Apple to produce two variants depending on the market.

We can thus expect that all iPhones are in the future exclusively compatible with ESIM for a unified production chain (and therefore savings), but also to make internal key improvements (larger battery, new components, etc.).

For information, Orange and SFR have already adopted ESIM transfer and SIM/ESIM conversion. With the arrival of Free Mobile with iOS 18.5, which should be launched next month, only Bouygues Telecom has not yet adopted these options.
