Free: new update to quickly install on freebox, here are the new features
The time is updated for internet boxes of Freewith the deployment of version 4.9.0 of the Freebox Revolution, POP, Delta, and Ultra servers.
The main novelty concerns wifiwith the integration of WPA3 and WPA3 compatibility WIFI protection modes aimed at strengthening wireless connection safety. Too old devices will however have to continue using classic WPA2.
All the new features of the Freebox update in March 2025
In addition to this additional safety layer, the operator announces that the guest wifi now has its own network name. An appreciable change that will better differentiate it from the personal network. Point to emphasize, the existing invited WiFi keys remain functional.
For its part, the WiFi 2.4 GHz sees its performance optimized for virtual machines on Freebox Pop and ultra compatible with WiFi 7.
Another novelty, this time unrelated to the wireless connection, it is now possible to control the front LED of pop and ultra models directly from the Freebox OS interface.
Finally, update 4.9.0 of Freebox servers corrects several bugs:
- Download manager blocking each restart
- SMB sharing problem alone on iOS 18 with the Apple File application
- Malformed URL corrections affecting freebox cameras management and sharing links
- Bypassing a bug linked to the Mediatek MT7927 stations
Update 4.9.0 requires a simple restart to be installed on Freebox RevolutionPop, Delta and Ultra. To do this, several options are available: via the Freebox OS online interface, with the Freebox Connect application or directly from the screen of its Freebox.
