Since May 31, 2025, Samsung Pay is no longer accessible on several models of Galaxy Watch using the Tizen system. This decision stems from a strategic change made up for several years: the progressive abandonment of Tizen for the benefit of Android (Wear OS). If you have a concerned watch, certain inconveniences will have to be anticipated, especially in the event of resetting your device.

End of course for Samsung Pay on Tizen watches: the models concerned

It is therefore now official: Samsung no longer offers the Samsung Pay application for download on its connected watches operating under Tizen. Concretely, the models concerned are the Gear S2there Gear S3there Active Galaxy Watchthere Watch Active 2 in 40 mm And in 44 mm as well as the Galaxy Watch 3. All these devices, although most functional for the most part, see one of their flagship features disappear: contactless payment.

Galaxy watches concerned by the end of Samsung Pay (under Tizen):

  • Samsung Gear S2 (2015)
  • Samsung Gear S3 (Classic and Frontier) (2016)
  • Samsung Galaxy Watch (1st generation) (2018)
  • Samsung Galaxy Watch Active (2019)
  • Samsung Galaxy Watch Active 2 (2019)
  • Samsung Galaxy Watch 3 (2020)

Little tip however: if you have already installed Samsung Pay on your watch, you can still use it … As long as you do not touch anything. Because in the event of reset or apparatus to a new smartphone, it will simply be impossible to reinstall the application. The watch will then become a simple accessory, amputated by its ability to replace a bank card.

For more recent models, do not worry: Samsung Pay remains fully operational on the Galaxy Watch running under Wear OS – Galaxy Watch 4,, Galaxy Watch 5,, Galaxy Watch 6etc. Its support is ensured for the years to come. A way also for Samsung to push gently towards the adoption of his new generations of watches.

This withdrawal is not unusual. In technological ecosystem, software support rarely follows old products. But that inevitably raises the question of the sustainability of connected objects and increasing dependence on proprietary services.
