There are old blows that hurt more than others. Gimp, the venerable alternative free and free In Photoshop, has not experienced major update (namely 2.0) since … March 2004. Yes, 21 years ago. Admittedly, the first deployment of the 2.10 version, the latest, dates back a little more reasonable 2018, but all the same. It was time for the teams behind the software to pass the third. It is now done, with Gimp 3.0. Let's see what this new version contains.
Seven years of tests and development
First of all, in addition to a slightly modified logo for Wilber, the interface also benefits from an evolution towards GTK3 for a slightly more modern appearance on Desktop. The management of Hidpi screens and the tablet support is in particular better, while the themes now use the CSS and the software natively runs under Wayland (X11 remains possible).

Then, note the arrival of non -destructive filters for layers. Practical to edit a layer placed several hours ago. It is also possible to select several objects at the same time to better organize your various diapers.
RGB color management beyond the SRGB has been improved, while the exchange of files with other applications in new formats has been enriched. Finally, in addition to many bugs and other more discreet changes, text edition has also been largely boosted.
GIMP 3.0 is available now, on Windows, MacOS and Linux.
