Whatsapp, Messenger and Telegram already allow you to erase messages for all recipients. Google Messages now joins the movement with a similar option. In the testing phase on the beta version, according to a user of Redditthis feature remains currently accessible only in group RCS conversations with 12 or more participants.

By selecting a message, two choices are available to users:

  • Remove for me: The message disappears only for the sender.
  • Delete for all: The message is removed for all members of the group, leaving a simple “deleted message” space.

Currently, this option is not available in individual discussions or smaller groups.

A limited and progressive deployment

Only some beta testers of the latest version of Google Messages have access to this option. Despite an update on devices such as the Xiaomi 15 Ultra or the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultramany are not yet entitled to this possibility. The gradual introduction of this new function suggests that Mountain View still assesses its reliability before largely deploying it.

RCS 2.7: The key to deleting messages

Deleting messages is based on the universal profile RCS 2.7which also allows the modification or recall of the missives sent within 15 minutes. However, deleted messages could remain visible for users of old versions of the application, thus limiting the total efficiency of this functionality.

Towards a global deployment?

Although Google has not yet announced a precise date, the progressive deployment suggests an upcoming outing for all users. In the meantime, those who wish to test the functionality can join the beta program of Google Messages. With this update, the Google messaging app continues to strengthen itself in the face of its competitors, while improving the experience and expanding its RCS functions.
