AI continues to make dazzling advances, including in the field of health. Google has also developed a revolutionary new AI model to tackle cancer, and more precisely to improve the treatment of cancerous tumors.
Google is once again putting AI at the service of health, with cancer in its sights
“Cell2Sentence Scale 27B”It is the new AI model developed by Google in collaboration with researchers at Yale University. Thanks to it, and 27 billion parameters, the Mountain View firm intends to decipher the “language of individual cells”.
The objective: to facilitate the treatment of the most resistant cancer tumors thanks to immunotherapy. Artificial intelligence thus analyzes cellular behavior in depth to highlight new potential therapeutic avenues.
In details, Google and Yale have so far trained AI to find a drug that helps the body better spot certain tumors, acting only when the immune system begins to react.
After analyzing more than 4,000 drugs, the Cell2Sentence Scale 27B model identified drug solutions already known by researchers, but also new drugs. They discovered that two of them, silmitasertib and interferon, were effective when taken together — while taken separately, their effects were zero or weak.
“This suggests that silmitasertib could help immunotherapy drugs better recognize and target tumors, particularly when immune activation is insufficient”reports Neowin.
Faced with this success, Yale researchers are now testing this method in different immune contexts. They are also exploring other drug predictions generated byAIin order to find new promising combinations to strengthen cancer treatments.
