This is an addition that we would have imagined arriving much faster than in July 2025. One of the interests of connected watches is indeed not having to take out your smartphone to regularly consult information, such as the directions to be taken provided by a mapping application. However, it is only now that Google offers a declination of Google Maps on Garmin watches.
Google Maps arrives for free on Garmin, but with limitations
Free and available in the Connect IQ Store, this version of Google Maps is, like that on Apple Watch, limited. Indeed, the Google Maps app for Garmin only allows you to display the directions to be taken with each intersection, whether on foot, by bicycle or with a moped. To find and define a destination in particular, you will have to go through the application on your smartphone.

Practical despite everything, since on foot, walking or running, a vibration warns the user at the right time before the next turn, and by bicycle watching his watch is undoubtedly less risky than taking his smartphone out of his pocket. Taping the screen also allows you to display the next three turning point.
Garmin also specifies that it remains possible to record his journeys on his watch using Google Maps. The synchronization of Garmin Connect to other Android applications for health monitoring is also there.
This lightened version of Google Maps is compatible with many models of Garmin watches. A selection of products from the ranges come, Forerunner, Vivoactive and Fenix are concerned.
