Users who have not activated Cloud backup from Google Maps are therefore found in an annoying situation. In an official press release, Google declares: “We have briefly encountered a technical problem that has led to the deletion of timeline data for some people. Almost all users with Timeline encrypted backups will be able to restore their data; unfortunately, those who did not activate backups will not be able to recover the lost data.”
Google Maps deletes data by mistake
Google also sent an email to people affected with instructions to those who have cloud backup. It is possible to check if the option is activated from the Google Maps application by clicking on your icon, then “Your journeys”. If the cloud -shaped icon is not barred, cloud backup is activated. Manipulation is the same on iOS and Android.
Last summer, Google warned that storage of location data would be locked up. The modification of policy strengthens confidentiality by avoiding monitoring on servers of the Mountain View firm but in the event of a technical problem, the loss is final, as shown in this bug.
