At Fairphone, no frantic annual cycle or a superlative race. The Fairphone 6, unveiled this June 25 in Amsterdam, is part of the continuity of a simple idea: making lasting terminals, which we keep for a long time, and that we can repair ourselves!
But this sixth generation crosses a CAP. Lighter, better finished, more efficient, the Fairphone 6 adopts more current codes without betraying its philosophy. In the wake of Fairphone 5 Dating from 2023, it retains a modular design with 12 elements, accessible with a simple screwdriver, while modernizing the whole.
Sobre design and optimized structure
At first glance, the smartphone remains faithful to the brand’s minimalist aesthetics, with its removable back and interchangeable modules. However, it is more modern and compact than its predecessor: 156.5 x 73.3 x 9.6 mm for 193 g on the scale, which makes it a fairly pleasant terminal to handle on a daily basis with a more industrial look.
It supports 6th WiFi, Bluetooth 5.4, NFC, and accepts a nano-Sim card as well as an ESIM, both compatible with 5G. In addition, it has an effective fingerprint reader on the power key, located on the right edge.
The Fairphone 6 is IP55 certified, which guarantees shy resistance to dust and rain, due to its removable design. However, he successfully passed fall tests in accordance with military standards – a rarity in this range. And for those who like to personalize their device, Fairphone now offers modular accessories (Dragon, Stopword, Cartes Card, etc.), simply fixable with two screws.
These gadgets, sold separately, recall the accessories that accompanied the release of another modular smartphone, the CMF Phone 1which wanted to be removable and non -repairable, however.
120 Hz OLED screen: the display rises upmarket
The screen is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful developments in the Fairphone 6 compared to its predecessors. It has an OLED LTPO slab of 6.31 inches, surrounded by slightly assymmetrical fine borders, and displaying 1116 x 2484 pixels, or 431 ppi. The adaptive refresh rate ranges from 10 to 120 Hz, an asset for autonomy while ensuring good fluidity.
The slab is protected by a Gorilla Glass 7i glass, more scratch resistant. If the general design remains simple, the display quality clearly places this model above its elders.
Solid performance and software sustainability
Fairphone has chosen the Snapdragon 7S Gen 3, a mid -range processor engraved in 4 Nm that we find under the hood of Nothing Phone (3a) And Redmi note 14 pro+. It is supported by 8 GB of RAM LPDDR5 and 256 GB of UFS 3.1 storage, expandable via microSD up to 2 TB. In use, it does not seem to suffer from notable slowdown, which is reassuring.
The set turns on Android 15, in a sober version completely devoid of bloatwareand benefits from an update commitment until 2033, 8 years of software follow -up, including 7 years of major Android updates – an almost unique case on the market.
A version equipped with The new interface /E /MURNA OS is also available for users wishing to detach themselves from Google services (GMS). The 5 -year material guarantee is also part.
A two -speed interface
In addition to the arrival of Google Gemini, a Fairphone Moments mode also appears. With a single click, the interface goes from a complete version to a minimalist mode, type “detox”, designed to disconnect, reduce distractions, or help users keep control of their screen time. A nod to current digital needs, without necessarily increasing the options.
A photo shutter that is played out of shots
On the photo menu of this Fairphone 6, there are three modules at the rear directly integrated into the shell, with a main Sony Lytia 700c sensor of 50 megapixels (MPX), flanked by a large-angle f/1.88, an ultra large-angle of 13 Mpx (F/2.2), and a depth sensor. At the front, in a punch centered at the top of the display, it also hosts a front camera of 32 MPx (f/2), dedicated to selfies and facial recognition.
A removable and more generous battery
One of the strengths of Fairphone 6 should be its increased capacity of 4415 mAh (against 4200 mAh for the Fairphone 5), which can be removed by unscrewing only 7 screws. According to official estimates, it would allow up to 53 hours of mixed use, a time that we will soon verify in our labs.
On the recharge side, the terminal supports a load up to 30 W, capable of regaining 50 % of autonomy in 20 min depending on the manufacturer. Note: the charger is not included in the box.
Rare environmental commitment
Fairphone is not limited to producing a sustainable smartphone. The brand is also committed to the content of the device, announcing more than 50 % of fair or recycled materials. However, silver, cobalt, tungsten, copper … up to 14 raw materials would be affected.
Manufacturing is designed to limit the carbon footprint, with green energy used in assembly and main components. The terminal is also guaranteed 100 % neutral in electronic waste.
