Heston 120: Marshall diversifies with an atmosphere sound bar cut for large chills
Marshall is one of the only brands of professional audio equipment to have embarked on the market for consumer products with unprecedented success. Ten years after his first portable speaker Kilburnthe manufacturer diversifies its activity with the Heston 120, a soundbar which aims to check enough boxes to compete with the highest -end iterations on the market.
Fruit of more than three years of development, the Heston 120 is designed to deliver similar level performance for music and home cinema. By this positioning, it can be directly compared to the Sonos Arc Ultrathe Klipsch Flexus Core 300, or the Devialet Dione.
Architecture cut for surround and atmos
Like certain bars of its premium all-in-one, the Heston 120 puts all the odds on its side to offer the best possible restitution of the Dolby Atmos and DTS effects: x. For this, it incorporates no less than 11 speakers divided into a 5.1.2 configuration, powered by an amplification totaling 370 watts.
It first has three wide strip speakers on the front, one is placed in the center for the restitution of dialogues, as well as two serious/medium speakers on its upper face. The air and side effects are entrusted to two wave guide tweeters oriented up and two other units placed on the sides. To top it off, the Heston 120 includes two woofers arranged at the rear, granted to a pair of passive radiators.
On paper, it would therefore be capable of reproducing deep bass, as well as three -dimensional realistic surrounding and vertical effects, without a subwoofer or satellite speakers in addition.
A large format sound bar with iconic design
To design the Heston 120, the British brand did not have to look far. She just resumed the successful rock’n’roll design of her guitar amps and portable speakers. Thus, we find the emblematic acoustic grid in brushed metal, the synthetic leather covering and the famous digital potentiometers.
With a length of 110 cm and a height of only 7.6 cm, the Heston 120 should be able to sound a 55 “(and more) TV without obscuring its image. If it seems fairly robust with its 7 kg on the scale, the sound bar is also distinguished by its reparability, since most of its rooms are replaceable (grid, buttons, speakers, etc.).
Level commands, the heston 120 on the table three potentiometers to control the volume, tone and selection of sources. There are also buttons dedicated to preselected content and different sound modes (Music, Movie, Night and Voice). Marshall also made the curious choice not to provide a remote control. To control the volume and the sound modes at a distance, we are Lilmite Doonc at the Marshall application. It also makes a facelift for the occasion, with an acoustic calibration system thanks to two integrated microphones, adjustment of channel volume, etc.
Wi-Fi, audio Bluetooth receiver and rich connectors
Wi-Fi compatible, the Heston 120 allows loss-free musical streaming via AirPlay 2 protocols, Google Cast, Spotify Connect and Tidal Connect. Of course, the main streaming services will be directly accessible from the app. A 5.3 Bluetooth receiver is also part for more traditional diffusion, with the management of the audio standard. We can therefore take advantage of the LC3 codec and Auracast to reduce audio-video latency and make an audio chaining with other compatible speakers.
If the sound bar already seems to be shining by its connectivity, Marshall has taken care to offer it a very complete connectors. Thus, in addition to an HDMI EARC port, we can count on an HDMI 2.1 input in order to connect a 4K source in Through Pass. In addition, there is an RCA input to connect a CD player or a vinyl plate, a Sub output for the addition of a subwoofer, an Ethernet port, as well as a USB-C output dedicated to the recharge of a mobile device. Finally, note that the Heston 120 will be delivered with an HDMI cable and that it can be mounted on the wall using the options sold as an option.
Available in pre -order today at a price of € 999, the Heston 120 will be on sale on the Marshall site from June 3. Later in the year, the Home Cinema Marshall range will be completed by the Heston 60 sound bar, a more compact and less expensive model, as well as by the Basses Heston Sub 200.
