Since March 31, 2025, citizens who must receive in town hall their new identity card are invited by SMS to download the France Identity application upstream. If it will always be necessary to wait 24 to 48 hours after going to the town hall to obtain its digital identity, this operation allows the least comfortable people with the technology to be supported in this dematerialization. This also makes it possible to use services more quickly, such as dematerialized proxy and access to tools on FranceConnect+.
Remember that in order to be able to use France Identity, it is necessary to have the CNIE. The old identity card in large format being devoid of NFC chip.
