During the podcast this past weekend /w theo von, Sam Altman explains that the absence of a legal framework for AI creates a vacuum in terms of confidentiality for sensitive conversations of users with Chatgpt, which prepares the GPT-5 model for soon.

OpenAi can be forced to share your exchanges

“People talk about the most personal things in their life in Chatgpt”explains Sam Altman. “People use it, especially young people, as life therapist, they have relationship problems and wonder what they have to do” : Suffice to say that out of the 5 billion prompts sent daily to AI, there are undoubtedly a lot of very private conversations.

Sam Altman explains that for regulated professions, as therapist, lawyer or doctor, there is a professional secrecy that legally protects these exchanges. “We have not yet resolved this for conversations with Chatgpt”admits the manager of Openai.

To put it simply, this legal vacuum exposes users in the event of legal proceedings. Openai would be legally forced to share its private exchanges if a court required it.

“I think it is very problematic, we should have the same concept of confidentiality for conversations with AI as with a therapist” pleads sam altman, who thinks that her children will never be smarter than AI.

For Openai, this lack of protection could slow down the adoption of chatgpt. The company could be ordered to provide private discussions in certain legal contexts.
