Ikea launches 21 Matter products for a simple and affordable connected home
For several months now, for its connected objects Ikea has decided to abandon the Zigbee wireless communication protocol to embrace the much more popular and open Matter. After the transformation into a Matter hub of its Dirigera gateway At the beginning of 2024, the company best known for its furniture is today launching no less than 21 new Matter-over-Thread objects, that is to say Thread devices operating under Matter. The promise: to make smart home technologies easier to use, more affordable and more adapted to everyday needs.
Many Matter products at ultra-competitive prices
With its new devices, which mix new products and updates of old products, Ikea covers three areas: light, sensors and control.

Concerning the sensors, five variations are available to cover as many needs: motion detection, door/window opening/closing sensor, temperature and humidity sensor, air quality sensor and water leak sensor.

Finally, three remote controls with different controls to cover various uses and a connected socket are there.

This all works straight out of the box, although a hub is still needed to automate it all. This can go through the Dirigera hub, but also third-party Matter-compatible solutions such as Apple Home, Google Home or Samsung SmartThings.
It remains to be known the exact prices and the marketing date. There will obviously not be a wait until January (launch date across the Atlantic) for Europe, while prices are expected to rise to a maximum of around €30.
