While the iOS 26 functions will be limited to some iPhoneall regions of the world will not be entitled to the same update. Apple has indeed confirmed that European regulations would have an impact on the deployment of certain functions of its new update.

Why Apple delays the functions of iOS 26 in the European Union?

THE Digital Market Act (DMA) represents a major legislative constraint for Apple. Its impact is such that it prevents the deployment of certain features within member countries. We think in particular of The copy of the iPhone on Mac Who has still not been deployed, a function from MacOS 15 Sequoia, launched in September 2024.

Things will not improve, since Kyle Andeer, Vice-President of Apple in charge of legal issues, announced a similar spell for certain features ofiOS 26 in a recent interview with Wall Street Journal.

He adds to the passage that user safety could be compromised if the company is forced to open its ecosystem to competitors – a fact resulting directly from the digital market act.

We discover that Places visitedApple navigation application Planswould not happen anytime soon. As a reminder, it automatically generates a history of the places visited.

A situation which could unfortunately extend to other functions of iOS 26. “Apple said that it continued to analyze the features that may not be available in the EU and that it tried to find solutions to offer these features as quickly as possible”underlines the Wall Street Journal.

DMA in danger?

With current negotiations between Europe and the United States around customs costs, it seems more and more likely to see a relaxation arriving for large American tech companies concerning DMA.

Besides, Donald Trump recently threw a cold in Canada around a similar project by directly interrupting all negotiations. Result: the idea was quickly abandoned by the Canadians, and the negotiations resumed.

As a reminder, the deadline for commercial negotiations between the country of Uncle Sam and the rest of the world, including the European Union, is set for July 9, 2025.

It remains to be seen whether Apple will be released or not of this situation, thus suggesting a potential release of iOS 26 for France and the other member countries of the Old Continent.
