“It poses a huge problem”: Wetransfer grants himself the right to use your files to train his AI

The latest update of the general conditions of Wetransfer did not make a lot of noise, and yet it could well change the way to use the service. Behind legal formulations a bit opaque, the platform now gives the right to use the files you transfer … to cause models artificial intelligence. No compensation, no active consent, not even a check box. Just a clause discreetly slipped into the T & Cs.

Wetransfer changes its CGU: your files will be used to train an AI
Who would have thought that sending a .zip file to his editor or a PDF to a customer would amount to yielding – without knowing it – an operating license to a tech company? From August 8, 2025, this is what you will accept by using Wetransfer. Clause 6.3 of the new conditions stipulates black on white that the transmitted files can be used to train automatic learning models. All without remuneration, without notification, and for an unlimited duration.
Concretely, this means that your creations (images, videos, texts, compositions) can now feed AI developed or subcontracted by Wetransfer. Worse: this license is transferable and sub-literable, which opens the door to use by third parties.
This change already arouses lively reactions, especially among creators, graphic designers and editors, for whom Wetransfer was a trusted tool. The transfer here becomes much more than a simple shipment: it becomes an act of sale of disguised rights. “Will they really use our content to lead their AI? It poses a huge problem”a user of Reddit.
While other platforms follow suit in the same direction, this evolution asks a real question: can we still entrust our files to a cloud service without seeing them digested by AI? And if you are looking for an alternative to Wetransfer, it is better to turn to more respectful services like Swisstransfer, Tresori Send, or the encrypted solutions offered by Proton (Drive, Mail).
