A simple tapping to turn the pages on Kindle

While we had to touch the E-ink screen of the Kindle to turn the pages of the books (or a physical button on the Oasis models), Amazon recently chose to offer another way of carrying out this daily handling on its readers.

The Ebook Reader actually relayed on March 26, 2025 that the version notes of the 5.18.11 update mentioned an option allowing to tap twice on the sides or at the back of the Kindle to change the page.

Activable in settings via the section Device optionits use is reserved exclusively for Kindle Colorsoft And Paperwhiteor the latest models released in 2024.

Note, it is possible to configure the option to go to the next page or return to the previous page. A slight drawback, because it will still be necessary to touch the screen for the action not configured with the double-tax.

“Perhaps a next update will allow triple pressures to scroll the page up or return to the previous page”estimated The Verge. This could indeed complete this new use without touching the Kindle screen.

Update 5.18.11 is currently being deployed and will be automatically installed on Kindle compatible in the coming days. For the most impatient, it is possible to carry out the manual installation by following Amazon's instructions.
