Kindle Colorsoft: The color reader returns in a (a little) more affordable version

A few months after the launch of its first large format color reader, the Kindle Colorsoft Signature EditionAmazon Kindle already widens the family with a newcomer, the Kindle Colorsoft “short”. No revolution here, this is a slightly more accessible version of the “Signature Edition” version that we already know. A strategy that the brand had already used in the past, especially for its Paperwhite 2024.

Cheaper, but …

This new Kindle Colorsoft, offered at the time of its launch at € 269.99, is € 30 less than its elder, makes some concessions to lighten the bill. The first, and undoubtedly the most notable, concerns the storage capacity, which is divided by two to reach 16 GB. Then comes the disappearance of wireless recharge, an appreciable convenience, but far from being essential on a reader. Finally, the self -adaptive front lighting, which adjusts the brightness according to the environment, gives way to a manual adjustment

For the rest, and this is the essential, the device keeps what makes the heart of the experience. We thus find its excellent 7 -inch screen displaying a resolution of 300 ppi in black and white and 150 ppi in color, its warm light adjustable for better visual comfort, an autonomy which is still counting in weeks and its sealing (IPX8). The dimensions and the weight remain almost unchanged, ensuring an identical grip.

An identical reading experience?

We had already offered you a test of the Signature Edition version at the end of last year. Neither his qualities nor its faults seem to be linked to the elements that have been removed from this new model. We can therefore reasonably bet on the fact that despite these few arrangements, the global experience is identical, both for reading, and the quality of the display or the reactivity of the interface.
If you are interested in this new Kindle Colorsoft, you will still have to ask yourself if these concessions justify the economy made. For many users, 16 GB of storage will be amply sufficient, while the lack of wireless recharge or automatic lighting should not represent a major obstacle. But the discount still appears quite thin with regard to what has been removed.
