KPop Demon Hunters 2: the sequel to the Netflix film is coming, but you will have to be patient

Fans of KPop Demon Hunters can rejoice, the animated film Netflix will indeed have a sequel! However, we will have to be patient before discovering what new adversaries the trio of singer-demon hunters will have to face in KPop Demon Hunters 2because the film will not be released before… 2029.

A no-brainer for Netflix

The fact that KPop Demon Hunters having a sequel is absolutely no surprise given the success of the film, which was as successful on Netflix as in cinemas. The animated feature film produced by Sony has in fact collected more than 24 million dollars at the box office on American soil alone, and sits at the top of the list of most popular english movies of history on Netflix with 325.1 million views in 91 days.

Although it has been available on the streaming platform since June, the film even added nearly 6 million dollars to its piggy bank last weekend at US box office. If we do not yet know if its sequel will be entitled to a cinema release, the opposite would be surprising.

If you are one of the few Netflix subscribers who have not yet seen KPop Demon Huntersthe film from Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans follows a trio of pop stars, Rumi (Arden Cho), Mira (May Hong) and Zoey (Ji-young Yoo), as they use their secret identities as demon hunters to protect their fans from an ever-present supernatural threat. Together, they must face their greatest enemy: an irresistible rival boy band made up of demons.

According to our colleagues at DeadlineNetflix and Sony are therefore planning a release of KPop Demon Hunters 2 not before 2029 for the simple reason that making an animated film takes time. Also note that depending on the production schedule of the feature film, this release window could still change.

Until then, Netflix has other projects in its bag concerning the universe of KPop Demon Hunters. We actually learned last August that a live-action remake, a series and even a short film were under study.
