Leaf, Micra, Juke: Nissan begins the revival of its range of electric cars

Nissan was one of the precursors of the modern electric car by launching in 2010 the first generation of its Leaf. Only, like Renault with its ZOE or BMW with its i3, this momentum quickly broke in with an electric car market which took a long time to take off.

Nissan then accumulated a certain technological delay. The brand has certainly launched the family electric SUV Ariya In 2021, but its only offer on the lower segments, the most promising in Europe, comes down to the second generation Leaf. It is hard to believe that the latter is always offered in 2025, as its sales are anecdotal and its technical sheet exceeded, with a charging plug at the Chademo standard, air cooling only and 270 km of autonomy since the disappearance of the model with larger battery.

Leaf becomes a crossover for its third generation

Nissan now reacts by announcing its next electric cars sold in Europe. The Leaf, precisely, will finally be renewed. Nissan only publishes only two visuals of its novelty, which takes the form of a crossover with lines close to those of a Toyota C-HR, for example. We don't know much about its technical characteristics, except that it will rest on the CMF-EV platform of Ariya, or its French cousin Renault Megane E-Tech. The third generation Leaf will be produced in England, in Sunderland, as was already the case for previous version. It should therefore be eligible for the ecological bonus in France at its launch by the end of 2025.

Micra goes to electric thanks to the Renault 5

Before that, another electric car will be launched by Nissan this year. This is the new Micra, which therefore abandons its thermal engines in Europe. It will be produced in the ampere factory in Douai, in France, since it is the technical cousin of the Renault 5 e-tech. The few visuals published by Nissan make it possible to observe proportions actually similar to those of the R5, since its structure is taken up. Too bad, because the R5 then loses a little of its singularity. Like the Frenchwoman, the electric micra will leave the choice between a 40 or 52 kWh battery, for maximum autonomy greater than 400 km in the mixed WLTP cycle.

Finally, Nissan teases the arrival of an electric juke, whose silhouette is seen in the background of one of the photos published. The roof line seems almost unchanged from the Thermal model current. No information is given on the technical characteristics of this third generation of the Citadin SUV. It will be launched during the Japanese fiscal year 2026, which will start on April 1, 2026 and will end on March 31, 2027.
