In the unforgiving world of televisions, LG’s “C” series is a metronome. Each year, it sets the standard for what an affordable high-end television should be. After having screened the 65-inch version in our laboratories, the verdict is clear: without revolutionizing the formula, it refines it sufficiently to remain the most interesting investment of the moment in terms of quality-price ratio. The 55-inch 55C5 version is available for around €1000 even if we have seen it go down to around €900 during heavy promotion and the 65C5 at around €1450.
The cinema experience without compromise
The major advantage of the LG 55C5 lies in its ability to offer a reference image without forcing the user to turn to ultra-premium models, much more expensive like its big brother the LG G5 or the competitors Samsung S95F, Sony Bravia 8 II, or Panasonic Z95B. Based on Oled Evo technology, the screen delivers those perfect blacks and infinite contrast that have made the brand’s reputation.

The C5 offers here an interesting light peak reaching 1150 cd/m², although we do not reach the levels of the very high end mentioned. Concretely, this translates into striking dynamics on HDR and Dolby Vision content. In addition, the color fidelity is exemplary right out of the box. In “Filmmaker” mode, we have measured excellent colorimetric accuracy ensuring that you view your films as the director intended them.
A war machine for gamers
If the LG 55C5 appeals to movie buffs, it is simply essential for video game enthusiasts. Where many competitors impose technical choices, this model ticks all the boxes. It is one of the few TVs to offer four full HDMI 2.1 ports, ensuring full compatibility with the PlayStation 5there Xbox Series and the most powerful PCs.
Fluidity is there with a display frequency of up to 144 Hz, coupled with VRR, G-Sync and FreeSync technologies which eliminate stutters. Responsiveness is almost instantaneous, with a response time imperceptible to the human eye. Although the colorimetry in standard Gaming mode requires a slight manual adjustment to be perfect, the overall experience remains well above the industry average, making this screen a true monitor gaming large format.
Verdict
The LG 55C5 is perhaps not the brightest television at the moment, especially compared to the Mini-Led models that we tested like the TCL C89K, the Sony Bravia 9, the Samsung QN90F, or the Hisense U8Q nor the most high-end from LG. However, it is excellent everywhere, without any real fatal flaw. By offering high-end cinematic performance, cutting-edge gaming capabilities and reasonable consumption for a price that remains competitive with the competition, it constitutes one of the best choices for equipping yourself with a TV in 2025.
