Mac Pro M4 Ultra canceled: Apple buries its computer to focus on the Mac Studio M5 Ultra

For demanding creatives and professionals, you will therefore have to turn to the Mac Studio M5 Ultra since the Mac Pro M4 Ultra joins Apple’s purgatory. So what does the future hold for this iconic range?

The Mac Pro would be replaced by the Mac Studio M5 Ultra

The Mac Studio would therefore be the new spearhead for Apple’s professional desktop computers according to Mark Gurman. The M5 Ultra chip would be exclusive to the Mac Studio, a much more compact model.

The Mac Pro M4 Ultra would therefore be abandoned, although until now, the range represented the pinnacle of the power of the Cupertino company. It is possible that this choice is motivated by the fact that customers are turning to the Mac Studio for its excellent performance.

Unfortunately, refreshes between 2013 and 2023 never returned the Mac Pro to its former greatness. Apple also tried to change its design, but many professional users rejected the attempt.

The latest 2023 release returns to a modern aesthetic reminiscent of the Power Mac G5. A machine which embeds the M2 Ultra chip and marks the transition to Apple Silicon processors.

Except that, despite these qualities, customers are turning instead to the Mac Studio M4 Ultra which have a better power-to-dimensions ratio, generous with their compact format.

So obviously, when we know that the Mac Studio meets the needs of the overwhelming majority of professionals, the existence of a Mac Pro no longer really makes sense.
