Mega launches Transfer.it, a new free, unlimited files for sending files … and merciless to Wetransfer

Following the controversies around Wetransfer – briefly accused of using shared files to train AI, before retropedaler – Mega draws his response. Its new service, Transfer.it, arrives with a simple promise: no compromise on file size, and encryption from the browser. Announced on July 20, 2025, this service intends to reassure, seduce … but also replace Mega at the heart of the online transfer game. It remains to be seen what this implies concretely.

Transfer.it is not a simple shipping site as we see everywhere. It is a 100 % connected service to Mega, designed to allow the sending of massive files. Concretely, it is necessary to have a MEGA account to use it. Once connected, you can set out a file or a folder, generate a link, add a password, set an expiration date (up to one year), or even plan a future shipment.

And the strong point is the size promise: no limit announced. In his official communication, Mega explicitly talks about 100 GB transfers, 1 to “Or more”. A rare feat, especially on a web service. No consumer competitor offers it for free.

On the security side, the files are encrypted on the customer side before sending. But beware: the encryption keys are managed by Mega. It is therefore not “zero knowledge” encryption as on the classic mega cloud. Clearly, the company based in New Zealand can technically access the content if the law forces it.

Transfer.it remains a formidably effective tool for sending very heavy files, provided you accept the conditions: having an account, going through Mega, and understanding that confidentiality is based on confidence in the operator. But for everything else, it is a priori a functional flawless and a real challenger in the field of XXL transfers.
