Microsoft Copilot is embedded in LG TVs when no one asked for anything
New week, new product that features an AI agent without being asked: it’s the turn of televisions from South Korean manufacturer LG to find themselves decked out with a Microsoft Copilot application automatically installed on the webOS operating system. A sudden and untimely appearance of the AI agent which, if not totally intrusive, has difficulty justifying its existence.

We owe this discovery to defjam16. In a photo posted on Reddit, we see the Copilot application on the WebOS home screen; alongside other classic apps from the LG ecosystem, such as YouTube or access to TV channels. Although it can be hidden from view, it is impossible to completely uninstall Copilot from your TV – the application is considered a software OS default. No concrete use of Copilot has been described on the thread dedicated to this discovery.
AI everywhere, interest nowhere
The arrival of Copilot on webOS is not a surprise: at CES 2025 last January, LG announced the integration of Copilot within its initiative “AI Remote”alongside its voice control chatbot. The press release remains vague on the usefulness of Copilot, saying only that it will allow users “ find and organize complex information based on contextual indications ”, which doesn’t mean much. It’s a safe bet that it will simply be an AI agent requesting voice command to answer all kinds of questions: an LLM in its TV, therefore.
Its presence on webOS is, however, curious in one respect – the operating system is based on a Linux architecture, which could presage a native version for Microsoft’s AI suite. LG is not the only one to add Microsoft’s agent to its TV ecosystem, since its compatriot Samsung has also operated a menage a 3 with Copilot and its “in-house” VIsiion AI solution on its Tizen televisions.
In another register less focused on AI but still pernicious, a new Live Plus “functionality” would analyze the content displayed on the screen to adapt the recommendations and other advertisements displayed to users. Fortunately, it is possible to deactivate this voyeuristic gaze in the webOS options menus.
