Microsoft insists with Windows 11: Emails target those who refuse to abandon Windows 10
The countdown is launched. Microsoft intensifies its communication onWindows 10 support stop, scheduled for October 14, 2025. The Redmond company now sends emails to computers holders still operating under this OS, encouraging them to go to Windows 11 or buy a new machine.
A warning without a clear alternative
The message, spotted by Windows Latestbegins with an unambiguous alert: “The end of Windows 10 Approach” support “. It is accompanied by links allowing Check the compatibility of your PC with Windows 11 or acquire a new one.
Then comes a FAQ section which recalls the consequences of this deadline. After the fateful date, Windows 10 will no longer benefit from any update, including security. Microsoft specifies that the OS will continue to operate, but warns: without corrective, the unrelated flaws will make it an ideal target for cybercriminals.
The company also evokes the possibility of recycling or exchanging its old PC, but does not offer any extended support alternative for the general public.
A strategy to force the transition, and a last commercial eye
A surprise detail: Microsoft does not mention the Extended Security Updates program (ESU), however official. This allows extend the one year support, for $ 30or around € 28, for individuals. For companies, the price is much higher and increases each year: $ 61 per device the first year, $ 122 per second, and $ 244 per third. Why this forgetting? Two hypotheses: Either Microsoft doubts that many households agree to pay for an OS at the end of life, or this is an assumed strategy to encourage Windows 11.
The message ends with a supported promotion of OneDrive, Microsoft's online storage service. The company suggests saving its files there before the transition. Advice that looks more like an attempt to capture subscriptions than a real concern for user data.
Finally, according to Statcounterin January 2025, Windows 10 held around 60.33 % of the Windows operating systems market share in France, while Windows 11 had “only” 36.65 %.
