During this interview, Sam Altman notably spoke of the GPT-5 model which is eagerly awaited or of the Stargate project which skates enormously. But his comments on AI assisted education did not go unnoticed.
A future generation of children raised by AI
When asked about his recent paternity and the help that Chatgpt brings him, Sam Altman has a disturbing response. The Openai leader plans a generation of children raised by AI who would lose their ability to communicate with humans, preferring parasocial relationships with chatbots.
“My children will never be smarter than AI”declares Sam Altman in a detached way. “But they will grow as much more capable than we were growing up. They can do things that we cannot imagine and they will be really good to use AI.”
However lucid on the situation, Sam Altman admits that this is not a very optimistic scenario: “Again, I suspect that all this will not be entirely good, there will be problems and people will develop these problematic, or somewhat problematic parasocial relationships.”
Parasocial relations with AI already exist and according to a recent investigation, Chatgpt has already caused dead. The magazine Rolling Stone Inquiry into users who have an almost mystical experience with chatbots.
While the future described by Sam Altman is cold in the back, the Openai leader offers no solution to allow children to grow without falling into a parasocial relationship with Chatgpt. “The advantages will be enormous and society in general is good to find how to alleviate the disadvantages”assures Sam Altman to listeners.
How can we not see a disengagement in the face of a problem created by Openai himself? The relationship difficulties of a generation of children raised by Chatgpt have something to worry about the company and Sam Altman, himself a recently father. Worse still: the leader believes that “Children love Chatgpt vocal mode.”
The AI commits errors, gives bad advice and hallucinous very often. Consequently, how not to worry about his place in the education of children? Especially that Openai says it himself, “Chatgpt is not intended for children under the age of 13”. And according to a MIT study, The chatbot would also make … more stupid.
