Netflix catches up with competition and improves its subtitles system

Generally, when it comes to the arrival of a new feature on a SVOD platform, it originally comes from Netflixoften copied. This is the case for the brand new Max additional profile system. Once is not customary, this time it is the American streaming service which is a little late on a handful of competitors, like Apple TV+.

As of today, Netflix Indeed introduces a new welcome way of taking advantage of the subtitles, in a context where half of the Americans look at content with subtitles.

Netflix introduces subtitles without sound indications

Until now, if you want to watch a series or film with the subtitles in the original language, you had to select the subtitles with the mention (CC). The latter, mainly intended for the deaf and hard of hearing, obviously offer dialogues, but also all the sound indications useful for the good understanding of a scene (sound effects, presence of music … etc.).

Very useful for people with hearing difficulties, these very complete SDH/CC subtitles can however spoil the experience of others. But more now, since a second option without (CC) is now offered by Netflix. This novelty, which concerns all languages ​​and not only English, remains shy at the moment.

First, only the new Netflix programs are affected, starting with season 5 of The series You. In the future, future original Netflix programs will benefit from it, while the firm “actively explore ways to extend this option to existing titles over time“.
