In a handful of years, our relationship to entertainment was completely upset. Physical support has given way to digital, and with it with multiple subscriptions to services: Netflix Or Canal+ For films and series, Spotify Or Apple Music For music, Audible For audios books …
In this constantly changing paradigm, BearingPoint has just unveiled His latest study On the behavior of French in digital consumption. Number of homes, real money spent per month, preferred services … The results are eloquent.
Netflix and Canal+ at the top, Nintendo and Bein good latest
In his study conducted from February 5 to 19, 2025, BearingPoint questioned 2078 French on their choices in terms of subscription to digital services within their home, ranging from SVOD platforms to online press, including VOD, music or online video games.
We learn in particular that 65% of French households have at least one subscription to a SVOD platform, 15% to a content creator and 14% to an online press service. Each Frenchman thus has an average of 3.2 digital subscriptions, and this figure climbs to 4.3 for 25-30 year olds.

In the lot of services deemed essential by respondents, we find in the lead Netflix (49%), Canal+ (48%), the regional daily press (35%), Apple Music (32%) or Spotify (31%). Apple TV+ (2%), Nintendo Switch Online (6%), BeIN (7%), Amazon Music (7%) and Dazn (10%) appear the least necessary in the ranking.
An invoice up 25% in three years
But all these services have a price, and it never ceases to climb over the years, while the Netflix streaming giant has recently announced A new price increase.
The average monthly bill by French household is 49 euros. A sum up 4 euros compared to last year … and 12 euros compared to 2022. Ouch.
Even more surprising: the French are not aware at all to put as much money in their digital subscriptions. To the question of the amount spent monthly in these services, they think they invest only 31.5 euros on average … 36% less than reality!
While Spotify is preparing to raise its prices againthe breakdown with the French portfolio seems closer than ever.
Asked about the issue, half of the respondents declares that they are also unsubscribed if their subscription came to increase by 10% in the future, when 33% announced that they are ready to stop all their subscriptions in 2025. Finally, 18% of respondents admitted to having used hacking in the last 12 months, especially because of the price increase.
