Nintendo Switch 2: The new portable console full of surprises
This is the end of a suspense that has lasted for several months: as usual, Nintendo has requested the communication channel of the Nintendo Direct to give new information on the Switch 2, the successor of its successful portable console, whose release is dated for June 5.
Full HD time, finally
She has the look of her predecessor, but the Nintendo Switch 2 has several fundamental differences in her bowels. If its thickness has not moved to 1.4 cm, its screen is updated, with a Full HD 1080p slab, a frequency of images of 120 images per second and an HDR compatibility. No question of hoping for the OLED nevertheless, we remain on classic LCD. Nintendo also promises better integrated speakers, in addition to a helmet outing now compatible with 3D sound. The rear support, which makes it possible to hold your console on a table, gains in robustness and flexibility. A new USB-C port also arrives on the upper edge of the console, in addition to that available in its lower part. The storage module finally goes to the 2025 era, with 256 GB available … It's not luxury, but it's already good.
The connection dock to the TV, too, is upper gear. Now compatible with the 4K display, it has a fan in its chassis to cool the beast and guarantee the stability of performance. In a more anecdotal genre, Switch 2 cartridges are adorned with a red color to differentiate them from Switch 1 cartridges.
What is the C what?
Small youthful cure for the Joy-Con, the detachable controllers of the Switch 2. If their design is more or less similar to the first switch, several differences are to be noticed. Fixing with the console is now taking place with powerful magnets, while its sticks are slightly larger. Use in mouse mode, with the magnetic edge placed on a flat surface, has also been presented, with compatibility already announced on several games.
The new C button, nestled in the lower part of the right joy-con and spotted in the official visuals of the machine, arrives. It allows you to open the GameChat menu, another novelty introduced with the console. It is thus possible to chat with other players – and even to share your screen, a feature introduced in the console market by the PlayStation 4, even if the frame rate of the presentation was really to be desired. This shared vocal chat will be active regardless of the game launched, officiating as an equivalent of discord for the Nintendo ecosystem. An official Switch 2 camera will also be available, with screen inlays as a bonus at stake, as in Mario Party. The use of the GameChat will be temporarily accessible to all users of the Switch 2, for a period of one year – after which a subscription to the Nintendo Switch online service will be required.
And here is the Pro Controller 2 controller
The obligatory passage to the throes of modernity also affects the Pro Controller controller, sold separately from the Switch 2 console. It retains the same design and the same arrangement, but wins the new small C, two GL and GR buttons on its rear part and a helmet outlet. No price has been announced at the moment.
And the price in all of this?
No price was communicated during the presentation for the Nintendo Switch 2. The console will either be sold alone, or in bundle with Mario Kart Worldnew installment in the race game license. A little more patience, therefore.
