The launch of the Nintendo Switch 2 did not cool the enthusiasm, despite an entry rate already salty in France. However, a decision that fell in Canada makes you shudder: Nintendo has formalized an upcoming increase in prices on current switch consoles, games and accessories.
The new prices will be unveiled on August 1, 2025, and although this announcement does not concern (yet) Europe, it raises a question that looks closely: could France follow the same path?

Officially, the price adjustment announced by Nintendo only concerns the Canadian market – at least, for the moment. From August 1, 2025, the classic models of Switchthere Switch Litethere Switch Oledthe controllers and even some games will increase a few dozen Canadian dollars. The reason invoked? Vague but familiar “market conditions”: inflation, increase in logistical costs, unfavorable exchange rate … The classic recipe.
The prices of the original range of Nintendo Switch consoles and their products in Canada will evolve according to market conditions […] Other Nintendo products, such as Amiibo and Nintendo Switch Online subscriptions, will also be affected by these adjustments.
But what worries is the previous one. Because the Switch 2, launched early June at € 469.99 (and up to € 509.99 in the pack Mario Kart World), is already the most expensive console ever sold by Nintendo in France and Europe. Added to this is the warning slipped by the president of Nintendo of America: if customs tensions between China and the United States worsen, an increase in prices is not excluded from them either. And by domino effect, Europe could well drink.
After Sony, which increased the PS5 Digital to € 499.99see Nintendo considering an increase on a console dating from 2017 and already sold around € 300 would no longer surprise anyone. So if Nintendo decides to increase the price – as in Canada – it will be necessary to seriously question what this console is still worth in 2025.
Should we buy now? Maybe. Nintendo has confirmed anything for Europe, but its history shows that it prefers action at the announcement. And in this game, it is better to have one step ahead.
