When the GeForce RTX 50 series launched earlier this year, a bad surprise awaited the players : the abandonment of 32-bit CUDA support. This technical decision had an unfortunate and immediate consequence on PhysX technology. Famous for its realistic handling of fluids, smoke and debris, this technology could no longer be accelerated by the GPU on these new cards. Result: the physics calculation was sent back to the processor, leading to significant drops in performance, some titles like Borderlands 2 even struggling to maintain 60 frames per second.

It’s now ancient history. Nvidia has just deployed its new Game Ready drivers (version 591.44) which integrate a tailor-made solution. “We have heard feedback from the community,” declares the manufacturer, specifying that it has added personalized support to guarantee optimal performance on the most popular PhysX games, aligned with that of previous generations of GPUs.

A “personalized” but incomplete list of games

While the initiative is laudable, it does not cover the entire catalog. Nvidia had to develop specific fixes on a case-by-case basis. Players can now enjoy a smooth experience on major titles like Borderlands 2, Mirror’s Edge, Mafia IIas well as Metro 2033 and its sequel Last Light. On the action-adventure side, Alice: Madness Returns, Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, Batman: Arkham City And Arkham Origins are also repaired.

However, there are still some people missing. If Nvidia promises the arrival of a patch for Batman: Arkham Asylum for the “first half of 2026”, the fate of the other games remains uncertain. The community, particularly on Resetera forumshad identified more than 40 titles impacted by this change in architecture. It now seems unlikely that Nvidia will invest the resources necessary to make all of these old games compatible with the RTX 50.

The update is available now via the Nvidia application or by manual download from the manufacturer’s website.
