The monthly statistics of downloads on PS5 show that in April 2025, the three popular games in Europe and North America are published by Microsoft: Minecraft,, Oblivion Remastered And Forza Horizon 5. Indiana Jones and the old circle And Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 are also in the ranking.
Xbox sells a lot of games but on PS5
Xbox’s strategy does not stop there since the remaster of the first Gears of War Arrival on PS5 and that Doom: The Dark Ages will also be released on the Sony console. This is good news for players who no longer have to buy several machines to take advantage of exclusives. Only Nintendo continues on this path but its philosophy is very different from Microsoft and Sony.
Sony has not yet launched a first-party game on a competing console like Xbox but focuses on the PC. Major games were released on this platform as Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 or The Last of Us Part II. According to the company, it is a question of attracting players to its console ecosystem.
Microsoft’s strategy started in February 2023 with the release of its titles on the PS5 and the Nintendo Switch as Grounded Or Rush hi-fi. At the time, Phil Spencer, director of Xbox, told The Verge that we should not see a generalization of this strategy.
The valves are however open: franchises like Age of Empires have made their way on PS5 as well as the future doom: The Dark Ages, the Remaster of Gears of War and The Outer World 2. Xbox however keeps exclusives like Avowed,, South of Midnight And Starfield.
Microsoft seems in an experimental phase and assesses the sales performance on the PS5. The commercial success of the games is decisive while the equipment is more and more expensive: the Xbox Series does not escape it, Its price has just increased.
