OnePlus 15: the three points to remember from an ambitious flagship

THE OnePlus 15 completes the premium shift of Oppo’s sister brand by focusing on three major assets, which allowed it to collect 5 stars during its recent visit to the test bench of Digital. A convincing performance, although the device hides some small weaknesses.

The advent of silicon-carbon

The most impressive point about the OnePlus 15 is its record battery life. It is carried by an oversized 7,300 mAh battery, even though the thickness of its case does not exceed 8.1 mm, which is permitted by the use of silicon-carbon technology. The choice hits home: the smartphone lasted 29 hours 50 minutes on our usual Viser test protocol, which simulates mixed use. Enough to last more than a day without going through the charger box, or even reaching two days! This endurance is complemented by fast charging at 120 W which minimizes the time spent at the outlet, and allows the smartphone to be recharged in just over an hour.

A design that is both classic and robust

The design of the OnePlus 15 is a little more conventional than that of the brand’s previous generations of smartphones (flat frame, square photo module), but that doesn’t matter. Its 6.78-inch Oled screen stands out for its excellent calibration, marked in particular by a delta E below 1: color drifts are reduced to the strict minimum. Without playing the record card, the 15’s display exceeds 1,500 cd/m², which is more than comfortable. The device is also IP68/69K certified, guaranteeing high level robustness, since it is resistant to immersion and splashes of hot water.

Hot, power!

Finally, the power is there. The device incorporates Qualcomm’s newest chip, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5and up to 16 GB of RAM, ensuring fluidity and gaming performance worthy of a premium model. However, this power has a counterpart: excessive heating in intensive use (up to 49°C) which forces a restriction. On the photo side, OnePlus is freeing itself from Hasselblad – the partnership now remains exclusive to Oppo – with its DetailMax engine. The triple module integrated into the terminal offers generally convincing results, in particular thanks to a powerful telephoto lens. In short, the brand demonstrates its ability to achieve software autonomy in terms of imaging.
