Nothing new on the horizon, 2G will no longer exist in France over the next year. Orange will get the ball rolling at the beginning of 2026, more precisely in March, by attacking the first two departments. Bad news: the famous operator is doing a little too much to warn its customers affected by the situation.
An automatic message with each call, Orange abuses to warn of the end of 2G
On Tuesday October 14, 2025, iGeneration indicated that users of a 2G smartphone with an Orange plan were beginning to be informed in a surprising way about the end of this network. For each outgoing call, therefore those made by the subscriber, the operator broadcasts a warning message.
That primarily concerns Orange subscribers Landes and Pyrénées-Atlantiques, where 2G will turn off on March 31, 2026 in Biarritz, Anglet and Bayonne, before disappearing completely from these departments on May 12.
This will be followed by Ariège (09), Haute-Garonne (31), Gers (32), Lot (46), Lot-et-Garonne (47), Hautes-Pyrénées (65) and Tarn-et-Garonne (82) from June 9. The rest of France will say goodbye to this emblematic network at the end of September 2026.
Please note, the voice message must be listened to for the phone to call the person, thus forcing you to wait for each call. A lack of understanding for some, especially among the elderly. “My mother is 97 years old. She thought she could no longer make calls. In fact you should know that you have to wait until the end of the announcement to have the call triggered”reported an Internet user to iGeneration.
An automatic warning message which therefore does far too much, and not in the best way to convey information correctly to the entire population. It is still possible to put an end to it, but to do so, you will have to contact customer service by telephone at 3900.
