Peugeot Polygon Concept

If the aggressive style of modern Peugeots has, among other things, made the success of the second generations of 3008 and 5008, the Lion brand has not necessarily been able to evolve its past after the departure of Gilles Vidal in 2020 (who returned to Stellantis in 2025). The latest 3008 and 5008 did not experience the same reception as their predecessors and the stylistic escalation in which Peugeot was engaged seems to have reached its limits.

Fans of the Sochaux brand will no doubt be delighted to learn that Peugeot wishes to find “pure, simple and geometric shapes”as its Polygon concept announces, with a much softer style than what the brand has accustomed us to in recent years.

Rear Peugeot Polygon

Although Peugeot does not describe its concept as neo-retro, we can still see some glances in the rearview mirror, notably with a quarter window close to that of the 205, as well as a grille with horizontal lines. These elements integrate micro-LED displays, which animate the grille and the rear face and indicate the battery charge level on the quarter panel, like the display on the hood of the Renault 5 E-Tech.

The Polygon concept measures 4 m long, 5 cm less than the current 208. It is precisely the next generation of the city car which should release this new identity in series, with a presentation expected in a year.

The interior, which is accessed via two gull-wing doors, does without screens and instead employs a micro-LED display behind the steering wheel, which is reflected in the windshield. The display is equivalent to that of a 31-inch screen, explains Peugeot. We won’t complain about this return to a simple interior, and it couldn’t be more colorful with red seats and dashboard. The four seats, in fact, have a 3D printed shell and their foam is molded in one piece.

Finally, Peugeot places emphasis on personalization with easy-to-change elements, different micro-LED screen displays and even Goodyear tires whose sidewalls can be engraved in color.

A steering wheel that reinvents the wheel!

Despite a futuristic general style that is difficult to imagine as it is in series, certain elements will be present on board the next Peugeot models. This is the case of the rectangular steering wheel of the Polygon concept, the Hypersquare. Like the “yoke” steering wheel of the Tesla Cybertruck, or the One Motion Grip of the Toyota bZ4X and Lexus RZ, the Hypersquare has a rectangular shape thanks to steer-by-wire technology.

Having no physical connection with the wheels, the steering wheel provides a variable gear ratio depending on the speed of the vehicle. At low speed, the maximum rotation of the Hypersquare thus reaches 170° in each direction, a little less than a full turn, and it will therefore not be necessary to turn the steering wheel to park. Conversely, the gear ratio is revised at high speed so as not to make it difficult to maintain course and to offer a feeling close to that to which we are accustomed. Peugeot will introduce this technology within the Stellantis group and plans to offer Hypersquare on its series models from 2027.

Peugeot does not detail the technical sheet, even theoretical, of its Polygon concept, which is therefore not intended to be marketed, but rather to provide a guideline for the style and technologies of the brand’s next cars.
