
Photo Fair from October 9 to 12: digital offers your entry
The Photo Fair is investing in the Grande Halle de la Villette from October 9 to 12, transformed for the occasion into an exhibition and discussion location where photographers and amateur and professional videographers will be able to test the latest generations of equipment offered by nearly 110 exhibitors. They will even be able to shop in the shops located in the sales village, where most of the brands have delegated their best experts to give you their advice from professionals.

Photo, a French passion
Grand mass of French photography now open to Europe and the world since the end of the photokina in Cologne, the photo show recently unveiled the results of its 10th photo barometer, in collaboration with the Alliance Française des Industries du Digital (AFNUM). This annual study, conducted with 1000 people aged 15 to 65, reveals fascinating trends that testify to a profound transformation of photographic practices in France.
According to the study, 62 % of amateur or professional photographers consider themselves enthusiasts, an increase of 9 points since 2015. This passion has been accompanied by a feeling of growing expertise. Thus, 42 % of practitioners consider themselves an expert, an increase of 13 points in 10 years. If the majority (53 %) continue to take photos to immortalize memories, new emerging uses, in particular the sharing of large (+7 points) or small (+3 points) life moments. The motivations vary according to generations: while 67 % of 50-65 year olds photograph to keep memories, 34 % of the youngest (generation Z) favor photo for simple pleasure.

Video and AI redefine the visual daily
The video is now solidly anchored in the habits of the French. 32 % of practitioners make it daily use, a figure that climbs to 47 % in generation Z. The phenomenon of VLOG is growing with 38 % of 15-29 year olds who make videos each week, and 34 % that share them on platforms.
Artificial intelligence (AI) also seduces and questions at the same time. 57 % of practitioners already use AI to improve their images. Mainly used for automatic touch-ups, the generation of backgrounds and tasks that the user does not control, AI is seen as an opportunity by 31 % of practitioners. 70 % of respondents want a systematic mention on the content generated by the AI.
Printing, essential
Photo printing also remains an essential trend, because 88 % of French people still print their photos, a figure that remains stable since 2015. Nothing replaces a printed photo for 66 % of them. At the same time, the attraction for vintage continues to gain ground. The nostalgia for argentics actually affects 54 % of practitioners, while 66 % love the design of retro cameras. A particularly marked trend in generation Z with 72 % of young people who like this style.
A practice that widens and specializes
If the smartphone is the front door of more than 7 in 10 young people to photography, practitioners are equipped in a more and more demanding way. Investments in photo equipment are increasing, 21 % of respondents evaluating their equipment at more than € 1,000, a figure up 3 points since 2016.

The live scene, located heart of the show, will host content creators, exhibitors and photo and video partners who came to present their work, their profession, their advice and share a friendly moment with the spectators. The major meetings, privileged moments of exchanges led by great specialized journalists, will be an opportunity to discover the creative process of great artists like Patrick Zachmann, Florence Levillain, Matthieu Ricard, Gérard Uferas, Pierre Elie de Pibrac, etc.

Photo spots will be made available to photographers. Real immersive workshops, you can test equipment in situation, train a practice, alone or accompanied by a brand.
The big exhibition
This year, the Grande Expo will allow you to discover the collections of the Roman publishing house Contrasto and the Forma Foundation, also founded by Contrasto. The opportunity for visitors to discover through more than a hundred works a whole section of contemporary and artistic Italian history, from its emblematic landscapes to its social changes, from the alleys of Rome to the faces of its population, from intimate looks to the large documentary frescoes.

The photo show remains a unique place where technology, art and creation mix. The opportunity to discover the works of the winners of the prestigious competitions. Since 2010, in collaboration with the CP+, two prizes have been awarded: one by the public and the other by the press. Chaired by photographer Laura Serani, the jury is made up of eight press professionals who have each appointed a professional photographer and “emerging” (French or installed in France), a little known or not recognized talent.
