PRO 12 surface and 13 -inch laptop surface: two proposals at attractive prices at Microsoft

Microsoft supports its big news for Windows 11, especially about Copilot+, two new products in the Surface range. A pro 12 surface in tablet format with detachable keyboard and a 13 -inch laptop surface, all obviously propelled by the snapdragon x chips more qualcomm announced in September 2024 and provided with the famous Npu of 45 tops necessary for Copilot+ PC certification.

Microsoft drives the nail with Qualcomm

It is therefore the Snapdragon X Plus chip (x1p-42-100) which has 8 cores, and not 10 as on the Snapdragon x Elite (X1E-84-100). This is not the only difference, since the graphic part is widely amputated, going from a theoretical power of 3.8 TFlops to 1.7 tflops.

To support this processor, Microsoft offers 16 GB of RAM accompanied by 256 or 512 GB of storage depending on the versions. It will not be necessary to count on a possible update since it is storage of the UFS type, as on smartphones, and not an SSD in M.2 format which equips the two surfaces.

Microsoft Surface Pro 12: a convertible

The PRO 12 surface is a tablet accompanied by a detachable keyboard which can turn completely turn around. Its 12 -inch screen has a definition of 2196 x 1464 px and has a refresh frequency of 90 Hz. Microsoft announces a maximum brightness of 400 cd/m² and a contrast of 1200: 1, sign of the use of an IPS slab. Hopefully the anti -reflective treatment will be effective because the brightness may be a bit tight for outdoor use.

Two optical sensors are included: the first on the front for the videos is a full HD definition, the second at the rear will allow you to take pictures on the go with a definition of 10 MP. The connection consists of two USB-C 3.2 ports compatible with data transfer, the DisplayPort standard and the load. For the wireless part, WiFi 7 is there. Microsoft announces an autonomy of up to 4 p.m. in video playback and 1 p.m. in Internet browsing; We will wait until we have a test model to pronounce ourselves on this subject.

Microsoft 13 -inch laptop: an ultrabook of 1.2kg

While Microsoft already has a surface portable pc: the Surface Laptop 7 Equipped with a 13.8 -inch slab, this is the 13 -inch laptop surface, enough to sow a little confusion. The main difference concerns the processor used: a snapdragon x plus for 13 -inch laptop and a snapdragon x elite (12 cores) for the surface laptop 7, and of course the price which is much more contained for the surface laptop 13. Like the surface pro 12, the surface laptop 13 uses an IPS slab of a definition of 1920 x 1280, this time. Likewise, the contrast is a little lower (1000: 1) and the maximum brightness remains 400 cd/m².

The Laptop 13 surface has two USB-C ports to Standard 3.2 and a full-format USB port; WiFi 7 is also there.
Its chassis is aluminum and ultimately weighs only a small 1.2 kg for a thickness of 1.56 cm.

Pro 12 surface without competition, unlike the surface laptop 13

The pro 12 surface is a niche proposal that does not have much competition, especially since its starting price is rather attractive: € 979 in 16 GB / 256 GB version. On Windows, we think in particular of theAsus Proart PZ13 ; Otherwise, you have to go on the side of the apple with the iPad.
On the other hand, the 13 -inch laptop surface will have a lot to do, first with the MacBook Air 13 m4 Apple which is sold at € 1199, while it takes € 1099 for the Laptop 13 with its qualcomm chip much less swift and efficient.

The Pro 12 surface and the Laptop 13 surface will both be available from June 10, 2025.
