Again on the foot in Europe, Renault must now consolidate its activities internationally to limit its dependence at the Old Continent. It will be one of the major challenges of his new boss François Provost.

To do this, the group intends in particular to rely on its Chinese partner Geely, with which the diamond notably founded the hug in PowerTrain, dedicated to the production of thermal engines.

Renault also presented a first model based on the technologies of the Chinese giant Geely, namely the great Koleos sold in South Korea and certain countries of the Middle East, which is none other than a clone of the Geely Xingyue L.

From now on, the two manufacturers announce a partnership to provide Renault with the Geely Geely Architecture (Global Intelligent New Energy Architecture) platform used for its Geely Galaxy brand, dedicated to rechargeable electric and hybrid models. Renault will use it to develop an electric and rechargeable hybrid SUV.

This model will not be sold in China, where Renault will focus on smaller electric cars. It will be marketed on markets where Renault is already taking advantage of a certain notoriety and an important distribution network, such as South Korea, or certain countries of Southeast Asia, South and Central America, or North Africa.

Chinese manufacturers sometimes need European brands

For Geely, this partnership represents the first delivery of its GEA platform to a third party player. The Chinese giant is fairly present internationally, notably thanks to the acquisition of Volvo, Lotus and part of Smart, and its subsidiary Galaxy is experiencing rapid growth. However, like other Chinese brands, it must build a brand image and a distribution network from zero to markets in markets very different from its Chinese stronghold. This partnership will then allow him to take advantage of the fairly good establishment of Renault on certain markets.

Geely had already taken a minority stake in the Brazilian subsidiary of Renault in order to sell its models via the dairy production and distribution network.
