Samsung discreetly launches a cheaper and boosted Galaxy A17 5G

We did not expect him so quickly, and he probably deserves better than a launch on the sly. The Galaxy A17 5G, successor to the Galaxy A16 5G Dating from the fall of 2024, has just appeared at the Boulanger reseller, which gives the signal of a larger marketing in the coming weeks; the lists of products decked out in an energy label (to be found on the dedicated platform of the European Commission) also report on the market of the Union since July 31.
An unchanged technical sheet
The Samsung Galaxy A17 5G almost keeps the entire technical sheet of its predecessor. It is always equipped with an amoled display of 6.7 inch (Full HD+, 2340 x 1080 pixels, 90 Hz) whose maximum brightness is not yet specified: it is to be hoped that it exceeds 800 CD/m² announced by the Galaxy A16 5G. If we note that the notch in the shape of a drop of water, housing the photo sensor for selfies (13 MPx) of the smartphone, has not been abandoned, it is unknown if Samsung has improved the sustainability of this display by protecting it from a Gorilla Glass window, for example.
On the power side, the exynos 1330 of the Galaxy A16 5G, which had proven to be suitable for its category, is still there. It is flanked by 4 GB of RAM, while 128 GB of storage storage via a microSD card complete this table. On the battery side, no change either: count on an accumulator of 5000 mAh and on a load limited to 25 W – but after all, even the Galaxy Z Fold 7 is not better at this level. Status quo In terms of photography, since the smartphone is always based on a high-angle module (50 megapixels), an ultra-angle (5 MPx) and a 2 MP sensor flanked by a macro optics.
More AI and a decline price
If the Galaxy A17 5G has the same technical elements as the A16, how is it? First by its design, very close to that of the Galaxy A56 and 36 of 2025, with its renewed photo block. The smartphone gains slightly in finesse: when the Galaxy A16 5G was 7.9 mm, the A17 5G does not exceed 7.5 mm. Its weight was also revised downwards, going from 200 g to 192 g. On the software level, he arrives under Android 15 – probably always with 6 years of updates – and benefits from a dose of AI to which his elder had not been entitled: he is compatible with Gemini liveGoogle’s conversational AI. The terminal finally stands out on the price plan: while the Galaxy A16 5G made its debut from € 249, its successor displays a starting price of € 229. Suffice to say that he should quickly replace his predecessor once his stocks are exhausted.
