The Premium TV market is preparing to welcome a newcomer to disproportionate ambitions: the Samsung Micro RGB has just landed in a diagonal of… 115 inch. We had seen this model during the CES of Las Vegas, which had already attracted the looks, alongside the other mini-LED RGB TVs which were presented there.
As a reminder, the RGB Mini-LED works differently from the classic mini-LED since instead of being white, the LEDs are directly in colors (red, green, blue, hence the name). The advantage of this new approach is above all to offer better coverage of colorimetric spaces and we could potentially reach 100 % of the REC.2020 which would be a small revolution. We can also hope for better management of blooming and contrasts, but we will have to check all this during a test.

The micro RGB TV that we had seen at CES.
Micro RGB, RGB mini-LED, micro-LED, little reminder
Samsung uses here the Micro RGB appellation which seems to have already evolved from these where the manufacturer had spoken of micro-LED RGB, a term that could be confusing. Indeed, the Micro appellation could suggest an evolution of the real micro-LED, this self-emissive display technology often presented as the heiress of the OLED (without defects linked to burn-in, with more brightness and potentially giant slabs). We are talking here about a mini-LED backlit LCD TV, with a colored led backlight system which therefore has nothing to do with the OLED.
Will the Mini-Led RGB replace the mini-LED?
Samsung finally draws the first, but the manufacturer is not alone on this land. Hisense has already presented its UX116 to CES, an impressive 116-inch mini-LED TV also operating a RGB backlight, while TCL showed a similar concept at the Las Vegas show. Sony also rushed into the breach a little later, in turn presenting a prototype of Mini-Led RGB.
If the real micro-LED remains inaccessible for the moment (with an estimated cost between 800 and 1000 € per thumb), the RGB mini-LED could represent a credible alternative as soon as the technology is widespread and at an affordable price.
A salty price for the moment
The Samsung RGB Micro-LED is currently available in Korea and arrives in the United States, but the TV should arrive in Europe afterwards, in the coming months. It is sold no less than $ 30,000 at present and should appear at € 30,000 in France, a logical price for a 115-inch model equipped with new technology, in line with the giant mini-LEDs of Hisense and TCL or 97-inch OLED at LG.
We should see in a second time mini-LED RGB televisions of more classic sizes arrive on the market, at prices we hope accessible. See you soon to find out more!
