In recent years, photo developments at Samsung have been quite subtle, between reuse of the same sensors and increased appeal to theartificial intelligence. According to a recent rumor, this scheme should continue with the Galaxy S26 and S27, which would let us wait until the Galaxy S28 to hope for real major changes.

Recycled photo sensors on the Galaxy S26 and S27

Shortly before the weekend, the Leaker Ice Universe shared uninformed information for the next generations of Galaxy S: Samsung would not provide important updates of the sensors of its cameras in the next two years.

Thus, the photo configuration would hardly evolve with the Galaxy S26 and S27, whatever the model. We learn in passing that the South Korean firm would prefer to focus on its ultra-fine and light models, like the Galaxy S25 Edge, thus limiting the development of larger and more efficient sensors.

That’s not all: we learn that the division dedicated to smartphones at Samsung would like to save money to maximize profits. A situation that would aim to compensate for the abysmal losses of Samsung Electronics – billions of dollars – in the production of Exynos chips.

“The mobile division must therefore compensate for this by slowing down material improvements and based on the functionality of the AI to market its phones”explains Sammobile.

All this would therefore make us wait up to 2028 to see major changes for photo sensors with the Galaxy S28, S28+, S28 EDGE and S28 Ultra.

Note that the information remains to be taken with tweezers: Ice Universe Since then deleted its post on Twitter/X, and by 2028, Samsung has long time to review its roadmap.
