Sigma 135mm F1.4 DG Art: The ultimate objective for the portrait with a breathtaking bokeh

The Sigma 135mm F1.4 DG | Art is therefore a hybrid fixed focal length designed for boxes equipped with full frame sensors and declined in Sony E or L-Mount mount. The focal length, relatively long of 135 mm, is ideal for the practice of portrait, because it allows to keep a certain distance with its subject, to avoid possible unsightly deformations and to compress perspectives. In addition, a focal length of this type is a major asset to reduce the depth of field and therefore maximize the effects of bokeh.
On this point, moreover, we can clearly classify this new objective in the category of “Bokeh Masters”. The 135 mm focal length associated with a very generous maximum opening F1.4 (a world first on a 135 mm Autofocus focal length) and a circular diaphragm with 13 strips are an ideal recipe for maximum bokeh effects with magnificent blurred transitions: guaranteed 3D effect. If we like this type of rendering, it is simply sublime and the manufacturer readily compares it to the rendering obtained with its recent 200 mm F2 in Sports Lamp !
Beyond the blur, this Sigma 135mm F1.4 DG | Art also seems to be performing in sharpness and therefore the dive by relying on a complex optical formula composed of 17 elements divided into 13 groups, including 4 FLD lenses and 2 aspherical lenses. The manufacturer announces an in -depth correction of the chromatic aberration and a minimized vignetting. The glass elements arranged at the front of the lens, with a diameter close to 11 cm, are impressive.
The autofocus motorization is naturally positioned on the rear part of the optics. It is provided by two HLA linear engines. This ensures the necessary power to guarantee rapid and precise AF performance, even on moving subjects.
As for the object itself, it is quite imposing. Count about 1.4 kg on the scale, a length of 13 cm (without the sun visor) and a diameter of 11 cm at the front. Naturally, given its measurements, there is a fastening collar for tripod. The manufacturing quality is naturally impeccable with dust protection and splashes, and ergonomics is worked to facilitate its use, even out of hand: manual and lockable manual diaphragm ring, 2 customizable buttons.
Availability and price
The new Sigma 135mm F1.4 DG | Art will be available on September 25 and offered at a price of € 1,899.
First opinion
No doubt, lovers of portrait and bokeh will be filled, but let’s be clear: this is not a goal that we put every day in your bag. In comparable alternative, we can possibly cite the Sony Fe 135mm F1.8 GM offered at the same price, but less bright and much less bulky. In the world of the L mount on the other hand, it is alone in the world!
