Siri soon replaced in Europe? Apple should still open the iPhone to competition

Siri is not at all the wind in the sails right now. While Apple has a bitter failure around its new version boosted at AI – Reported from iOS 18 to iOS 19 – The European Union would be ready to put its grain of salt in the historic vocal assistant of the iPhone. The lens would be simple: to break the Siri monopoly.
Siri on the hot seat in Europe, from iPhone to Mac
In its desire to open Apple’s devices to competition, the European Union (EU) would soon be attacked by another long -standing monopoly: the voice assistant. Via an article published this Sunday, May 18 on Bloomberg, Mark Gurman shares that Siri could be replaced by other solutions on the old continent in the future.
The apple firm should add an adjustment to define another default voice assistant to the iPhone, the iPad or the Mac. A boon for competition, which clearly has the advance in the field thanks to the integration of artificial intelligence. We think in particular of Google Gemini, Chatgpt or even Perplexity.
All this would therefore put Apple even more under pressure, since the version of Siri doped at AI has been delayed by several months. The company should therefore quickly prove itself by deploying an effective and advanced house solution before being forced to open up to competition in Europe.
Even insufficient efforts on the part of Apple
As a reminder, the first efforts to open the Apple ecosystem – linked to Digital Market Act (DMA) – were recently judged as insufficient by the European Commission. Result: a fine of 500 million euros was imposed on him.
A decision that has not gone unnoticed, even in American political spheres. Donald Trump reacted stronglyin an already tense context between Washington and Brussels on customs duties.
