This is the kind of little novelty that does not look like much and which, however, changes life. In the latest test versions of Windows 11Microsoft is preparing a simple but effective function: an internet speed test button directly accessible from the network bar, at the bottom right of the screen. Yes, where you click to see WiFi available when your FLANCHE signal.

Windows 11 will allow you to test your flow with one click

The information was spotted by a regular home finds, the X account (formerly Twitter) @phantomofearth, which foams the Dev and Beta versions of Windows. Concretely, by clicking on the network icon, a new button will appear next to the classic “refresh Wi-Fi networks”. His role? Send you to a debit test tool hosted on Bing.

So no, it is not a tool integrated as a native to Windows. It is a simple shortcut to an online service, a hybrid solution that has the merit of existing, and above all to be placed right in the right place. No need to open a browser or look for “speedtest” in a hurry during a teams meeting that jerks. It is there, within reach.

Another welcome detail: this button will also be accessible by right click on the network icon, alongside the connection diagnosis. Microsoft therefore seems to want to put a little intelligence in his taskbar, which is not a luxury.

But beware, because at this stage, we do not know if Microsoft would force the opening in Edge or let the default browser do the job. Another unknown: the technical details of the test itself. Does he use bing servers? An external provider like Ookla? What reliability in the face of specialized tools like NPERF or Speedtest.net? Finally, it is impossible to say for the moment if a more successful version (locally integrated in Windows, without going through the browser) is scheduled for later.

For the time being, the function remains confined to the test versions. But if it is maintained, it could quickly establish itself as a first appeal diagnostic tool.
