Sony drastically reduces the wing of its smartphone activities in Europe. THE brand new Xperia 1 VII, however standard bearer of the brandknows sales suspended in Japan due to critical bugs. In parallel, the manufacturer abandons several distribution channels in Europe, notably in Finland, and leaves doubt about its future in the region. The strategy is refocused: fewer countries, fewer points of sale, and a more symbolic presence than ambitious.

Sony abandons (almost) Europe: the end of a mirage xperia

Sony does not make it a great speech, but the facts speak for themselves. The Japanese manufacturer significantly reduces its presence on the European smartphones market. In Finland, the Xperia 1 VII simply disappeared from the official sales channels. Elsewhere, the brand is satisfied with a few online distributions, mainly via Amazon. The message is clear: Europe is no longer a priority.

In parallel, the Xperia 1 VII is faced with a major stability problem. The model, barely launched in Japan, saw its sales suspended due to a bug causing untimely restarts. Sony has published a corrective update, but the evil is done: the reputation of reliability takes a hit, and the launch is largely compromised.

But the clearest sign comes from the infrastructure itself: according to Vocal mediaSony has closed its Sony Mobile Europe site, now redirected to the Global Sony.com portal. Its European subsidiary dedicated to mobile, Sony Mobile Communications AB, has also been dissolved. More than just adjustment, it is a real rationalization of costs and structures.

This combination of technical problems and geographic withdrawal sounds like an admission. Sony no longer manages to exist in a market dominated by Samsung,, Apple,, Xiaomi Or Honor. The company continues its efforts in Asia, where it remains competitive, but lets Europe close behind it.

This partial withdrawal undoubtedly marks the end of an era. The one where Sony was still trying to impose a singular vision of the smartphone, with its homemade sensors, its calibrated cord screens, and a design often in advance.
