Sora 2 is a wave ! The AI dedicated to video creation crossed the million downloads in less than five days after its launch, even surpassing the debut of ChatGPT on iOS (606,000 downloads in seven days). The application reached first place in the American App Store on October 3, with a daily peak of 107,800 installations. This dazzling success reflects a booming AI video market, estimated at $8.2 billion in 2025. Unlike the first version launched in February 2024, Sora 2 integrates synchronized audio, realistic physics and the “cameo” functionality allowing you to insert yourself into generated scenes – all accessible via an iOS app or the web. But OpenAI has locked access to its platform.

Gradual deployment by invitations

Indeed, access to Sora 2 is not based solely on a classic geographic restriction. OpenAI has opted for a gradual invitation system: ChatGPT Pro and Plus users have priority, with distribution in successive waves via the iOS application or the sora.com website. This approach allows the company to manage server load while refining security safeguards — particularly against the misuse of AI-generated content.

To be among the first to access Sora 2 when it arrives in Europe, several concrete steps are necessary. Creating an OpenAI account and registering on the official waiting list is the essential prerequisite. Subscribing to a ChatGPT Plus subscription (€20/month) drastically increases your chances of a quick invitation, with current Sora 1 subscribers also having priority.

Bypass geo-restriction with a VPN

The technical handling is relatively simple. After installing a VPN on your device, simply connect to a US server from the app interface.

From the list of countries, select “United States” then choose a specific server — ideally in New York or Los Angeles to optimize latency. Once the VPN connection is established, your French IP address is masked and replaced by an American IP.

Then go to sora.com or download the Sora app from the US App Store (requires Apple US account). The system detects your location as being in the United States, allowing you to register on the waiting list and, if applicable, access the service if you have an invitation. Be careful, however: this configuration only resolves the geographic barrier. The invitation system remains the main filter — a VPN does not exempt you from obtaining official access via OpenAI. But by anticipating this technical configuration, you maximize your chances of being operational upon receipt of your invitation, without additional delay.
