Spotify

Spotify is a music streaming platform that allows you to listen to unlimited music, radio and podcasts either without a subscription (with advertising) or with a subscription.

Spotify, already one of the heavyweights in audio streaming, wants to make the transfer of playlists much less painful and thus recruit more subscribers. The platform has integrated the TuneMyMusic service into the heart of its mobile app to make it easy to import your favorite music from most major competitors, without using external software or juggling multiple windows. An approach already undertaken recently by the apple brand and its service Apple Music.

Import your playlists in one click

This new feature is currently being rolled out and can be found in the “Your Library” tab. At the bottom of this page, under the line that allows you to add podcasts or shows, a new “Import your music” button appears. By pressing it, Spotify opens TuneMyMusic in a built-in browser and guides you step by step: you choose the original service, you connect, then you select the playlists to repatriate. Moments later, they end up in your Spotify library, while the lists on the original platform remain intact.

TuneMyMusic is a tool that we have already talked about. This service allows you to move music from one platform to another. The difference is that integration into Spotify removes several constraints. On the TuneMyMusic website, the free version normally limits the transfer to 500 songs, with the rest reserved for paying subscribers. By using the button integrated into Spotify, this barrier disappears and it is possible to import all playlists, including those containing thousands of tracks, at no additional cost.

Another advantage is that the list of compatible services is very broad. TuneMyMusic supports Apple Music, YouTube Music, Amazon Music, Deezer, SoundCloud, and many other more private platforms. Concretely, if you’ve spent years refining your playlists elsewhere, you can copy them to Spotify in minutes without rebuilding everything by hand.

This strategy brings Spotify closer to its rivals, who already offer similar functions. In addition to Apple Music, YouTube Music Premium also allows you to retrieve playlists from other services and even recommends TuneMyMusic in its official support. At Spotify, the tool remains oriented in one direction and only serves to bring new music lovers to the platform rather than helping them leave, even if TuneMyMusic is capable of taking your playlists in all directions.

Your playlists are worth gold, and Spotify knows it

There is nothing innocent about this timing. Between the regular rise in prices, the arrival of options like that of Apple or Google and the recent controversies surrounding Spotify, including the hashtag #BoycottSpotify and other controversies, the service needs to improve its image and convince the curious to take the plunge. Offering unlimited and free music moving is a good argument for those who have accumulated a giant catalog on another service and did not dare to move.

Once your playlists are installed on Spotify, you can also take advantage of the in-house tools to make them evolve. The platform allows you to create collaborative lists with your friends, personalize covers, easily share your favorites via integrated messaging and take advantage of automatic recommendations, which rely on your listening to generate tailor-made playlists. Enough to transform a simple technical transfer into a good excuse to rediscover all your music.
