On a Dark Web forum, it proposes to hand over $ 5,000, data from no less than 89 million STEAM accounts against the sum of $ 5,000. In 2024, the number of active users per month amounted to 150 million. A possible good catch, therefore, even if the type of data concerned is not specified (account name, password, bank card numbers …).

However, it would seem that the breach does not come from steam directly, but from a third -party service, Twilio. SMS registers (content, sending status, metadata …) of the latter would be in a sample of the files recovered. This service is used in particular for double authentication by SMS … but not by Valve, which declared it directly following this hacking ad. On the Twilio side, we also refute any hacking.
