Stranger Things: Netflix reveals the distressing first minutes of season 5

Will Byers is at the heart of the season 5 opener of Stranger Things. Netflix has posted the first five minutes of this final season online on the occasion of Stranger Things Day which takes place every November 6 to mark the day of the disappearance of the little boy in the series.

Watch out for spoilers below if you don’t want to see this scene before the show returns on November 27.

Will, Vecna and the Upside Down

Thing promised, thing due, the first five minutes of Stranger Things prove that the series will indeed provide answers about the link between Will (Noah Schnapp) and the Upside Down in its final season.

Matt and Ross Dufferthe creators of the Netflix show, have already declared that these final episodes will explain what the Upside Down is, how and why it exists, as well as the relationship that Will has with this place.

The extract below takes us to November 12, 1983, six days after Will’s disappearance. We can thus see a rejuvenated Noah Schnapp singing the famous “Should I stay or should I go” by the Clash while he is hidden in the Upside Down version of Castle Byers.

But quickly, Will hears the growls of the Demogorgon and tries to escape, before being caught by the monster and being taken straight to the big bad of the series: Vecna (Jamie Campbell Bower).

As this sequence takes us directly back to the first season of the series and shows Vecna manipulating Will from the beginning, it suggests that everything the heroes of the series have experienced up to this point was part of Vecna’s plans. However, we will have to wait a few more weeks before we start to get some answers on this subject.

As a reminder, the season 5 of Stranger Things will be broadcast on Netflix in three parts: Volume 1, composed of four episodes, will be available from November 27, followed by Volume 2 the day after Christmas (three episodes), before the arrival of the final episode on New Year’s Day.

In these latest episodes, “Our heroes have only one objective left: to find Vecna… and destroy her. But no one knows where he is hiding or what he is planning. The government has placed Hawkins under military quarantine and is redoubling its efforts to capture Eleven, forced, once again, to hide,” describes the official synopsis.

“As the anniversary of Will’s disappearance approaches, panic sets in. The final battle looms, and with it, a darkness more fearsome and deadly than ever.”
